The base model Sonic gets about 26 mpg in the city and 35 highway, without turbo, manual transmission. The base model automatic transmission gets about 25 mpg city and 35 mpg highway.
The next step up in Chevy’s line of vehicles with excellent gas millage is the Cruze Eco, which gets 42 mpg highway with manual transmission.
“Sonic changes the subcompact sterotype and puts an end to the term ‘econobox,’” said Joaquin Nuno-Whelan, the car’s vehicle line director and chief engineer.
The Sonic is completely built in the GM assembly plant in Orion Township. This is the only U.S. built subcompact on the market today!
