Chevy Approaches 100% Reliability in Engines and Transmission

In the month of January, 99.3% of the 1.8 million Chevrolet vehicles enrolled in OnStar Vehicles Diagnostics reported that there were no issues with the key compontens of their engine and transmission systems. The Chevrolet Malibu's engine and transmission systems reported no issue in 99.7% of the vehicles checked by OnStar.

Stronger

Working smarter and stronger under the hood means the new Silverado HD is capable of even more. The dependable available Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8 got a boost in muscle, delivering increased horsepower and torque ratings. You'll get plenty of pull too, with 20,000 lbs of towing. That's more than Ford or Dodge.

Despite the boost in muscle, we've also managed to make the Duramax quieter than before. The engineers managed to not only increase power but also improve highway fuel economy. Using a more aerodynamic front end, high-pressure piezo injectors and a larger 36 gallon tank, it offers up to 680 hwy miles between fill-ups.

An all new chassis with a high strenght, fully boxed steel frame contributes to an increased gross vehicle weight rating Torsional stiffness has increased by five times, which also improves ride quality. Looking for that fully-boxed frame on a Ford F-250 or F-350? You won't find it.

Three tons of weight? That's a wa;l in the snow for the new Silverado HD. Thanks to a new front suspension system with massive control arms, torison bars and the largest steering gear we've ever used on a heavy duty pickup, the new Silverado HD now offers up to a 6,000 lb front gross axle weight rating.

The entire suspension is completely redesigned. Many components are bigger and stronger to handle increased loads. A new fully-boxed frame along with intelligently designed hydraulic body mounts on Extended and Crew Cab models improve ride quality by helping to isolate and absorb bumps.


More Secure

Now standard on all single rear wheel models, StrabiliTrak uses a combination of braking and engine management to aid in helping to keep the vehicle on the driver's intended path, particularly during emergency maneuvers. In an instant, it automatically adjusts engine power and is designed to apply the brakes. So if you hit a patch of ice and start to skid, StabiliTrak can apply brake pressure to the appropriate wheel, slow the engine and help the driver maintain control.

The new Trailer Sway Control feature senses trailer sway and automatically applies the truck's brakes and reduces engine power, if necessary to help you get back on track.

On uphill inclines, greater than 5% grade, the Hill Start Assist automatically engages to hold the truck stationary for about a second after the brakes is released. This gives drivers time to apply the throttle before the truck can roll backward.

When it comes to the brakes, everything has improved. Larger rotors and calipers improve brake pedal feel and result in shorter pedal travel. Intelligent Brake Assist is designed to sense a panic braking situation and fully applies the brake. It all adds up more confidence, even when you're hauling heavy loads or towing.
