Camaro takes center stage in the Transformers series as the character Bumblebee, a Rally Yellow Camaro.Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the third in the hit Transformers live-action movie series, is in theaters June 29, 2011. In conjunction with the release of the film, Chevrolet announces the 2012 Camaro Transformers Special Edition, which will be available in North America.

Monitoring Chevy Volt's Power Usage

General Motors Co. and OnStar are launching a program to send data instantly from Chevrolet Volts back to the power grid so utilities can better manage their energy demands.

The program uses the Volts' OnStar system to monitor a vehicle's battery charge. Utilities could then better balance demand and offer incentives to electric vehicle owners who charge their vehicles during off-peak hours. The program will include hundreds of Volts leased by General Electric for its employees, according to a GM statement released today.

GM Moves Forward in the Silverado

General Motors Company, said today its Flint, Mich., assembly plant to make the next generation of full-size pickup trucks.


 In a statement, the automaker said as part of the investment it will create or retain 150 jobs at the plant, which opened in 1947 and employs about 2,050 people.


GM is expected to roll out the next version of its Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups in early 2013.


U.S. sales through June of the Silverado and Sierra were up 3 percent and 1 percent, respectively. The Silverado is the No. 2 selling vehicle in the U.S. market.


In January, GM announced plans to add a third shift of 750 workers at the Flint plant in the third quarter to build heavy-duty versions of the big pickups.

Chevrolet Volt is the New Police Patrol Car

New York City’s vast fleet of vehicles is getting greener. Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the city is acquiring 50 Chevrolet Volts as part of its strategy to cut air pollution, carbon emissions and gasoline consumption.


The Volts are part of a larger group of electric cars to be used by a number of city departments, but the Volts slated to become police patrol cars are likely to get the most attention. General Motors Co. says the Volt will be the first electric car used by the New York City police department.


“This is the latest and largest-ever addition of electric vehicles to the City’s fleet, which is already the largest municipal clean-air vehicle fleet in the nation,” Bloomberg said of the total of 70 new electric vehicles. 


While the car can run for up to 35 miles on battery power alone, it also carries a gasoline engine that kicks in to extend its driving range to a total of up to 379 miles.

Chevrolet to sell Cruze in a Diesel Verison

The Chevrolet Cruze, the most popular car in the U.S. last month, will come in a diesel version that could boost gas mileage to around 50 mpg, two people briefed on General Motors Co. product plans said Monday.
A diesel Cruze would help GM meet more stringent government gas mileage requirements.
An unidentified source said, the diesel Cruze won't hit showrooms until at least 2013.
GM has several diesel-powered cars in other parts of the world, including a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel Cruze that's selling well in Australia.
GM will have to use diesel and other technology to meet stricter U.S. fuel economy standards in the coming years.
The diesel Cruze would be built at GM's factory in Lordstown, Ohio, southeast of Cleveland.

Chevrolet Colorado Rally Concept Revealed

At the recent Buenos Aires International Motor Show, GM unveiled the Colorado Rally Concept version but production of the next generation Chevrolet Colorado has not yet been revealed.
Looking at the Colorado Rally Concept, one can tell the truck is designed for serious off-roading.
“The Concept Rally Colorado, once again demonstrates that the DNA of competition is in the blood of Chevrolet. One of these characteristics Concept reaffirms our commitment to the future of the brand and also part of the centennial celebration of Chevrolet around the world, “said Jaime Ardila, president of GM South America.
Inside, Chevrolet has equipped this truck with racing seats complete with five-point harnesses. The driver can even adjust tire pressure and suspension settings from the cabin, depending on what type of terrain lies ahead.

For the first time in years, a U.S. automaker has topped the passenger car sales charts.
The Chevy Cruze was the best-selling car in the United States in June.
Chevrolet small car surge reflects parent General Motors’ Inc. “With continued strong consumer demand for GM’s fuel-efficient vehicles, June was another solid month for us,” said Don Johnson, the carmaker’s vice president for U.S. sales operations.
Chevy’s Cruze, the new compact model GM introduced last year, was not only the best-selling passenger car in the U.S. in June but third - best seller over all.
