2013 Chevy Cruze in Diesel Version

Chevrolet’s commitment to a fuel-efficient future – and support for U.S. manufacturing – were both in the news recently when GM announced it would build the 2013 Chevy Cruze diesel, expected to achieve about 50 mpg highway, at its plant in Lordstown, Ohio. The automaker also will invest $5.5 million in the facility to prepare for the new vehicle; it’s a necessary expense, since the team at Lordstown is currently running at near full capacity to keep up with demand of the gas-engined Cruze.
The popular compact was the best-selling vehicle in its segment in September, as well as through September, and has sold more than 212,000 units in its first 12 months in the U.S. marketplace. The diesel variant is slated to build on that success by representing yet another boost to Chevy’s ongoing efforts to improve the fuel economy of the Cruze lineup.
The Cruze Eco configured with a six-speed manual transmission already owns the highest fuel-efficiency mark of any gas-only vehicle sold in this country – a sterling 42 mpg – and that goes with impressive ratings of 28 mpg city and 33 mpg combined. But for the 2012 model year, Chevrolet engineers were able to squeeze even more miles per gallon out of the Cruze Eco outfitted with its six-speed automatic; the car is now up to 39 mpg highway, which represents a gain of more than 5 percent as compared to the 2011 model. Further, the peppy Cruze turbo received 2-mpg improvements across the board for 2012 and can deliver an EPA line of 26/38/30 with its six-speed autobox.
The next leap forward, the Cruze diesel, will get things jumping in the 2013 calendar year.

Chevrolet Releases New Look for Upgraded 2013 Models

It’s the year of the small car for General Motors as the automaker prepares to debut tricked-out Chevrolet Sonic subcompacts and Cruze compacts next week at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show.
Chevrolet will showcase 51 vehicles at the show, set for Nov. 1-4 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas.
GM says 60% of its displays will be small cars, including 21 Chevrolet Sonics and 10 of the company’s best-selling Cruze cars.
“The Sonic really lends itself to the performance side of things,” said Cristi Landy, director of small cars for Chevrolet. “We’re trying to make it the a la carte vehicle for consumers.”
Landy said the most popular specialty package for the Sonic and Cruze is the Z-Spec series, where differences are evident in the cars’ ground effects and paneling, wheels, rear spoilers and grilles.
Chevrolet introduced its Z-Spec lineup at SEMA last year, but enthusiasts can expect this year’s lineup to be sportier and a step closer to fruition, Landy said.
The changes, she said, could be available for 2013 models.
“Everyone wants to stand out from the crowd, but not everyone knows how,” said Adam Barry, senior creative designer for the Corvette and Camaro.
Accessorized Camaros and Corvettes will be at SEMA as well, though company experts are finding a growing demand for personalization and modification of sedans.
“The nice thing with accessories is customers can come back to their dealer,” Landy said. “They’re important to generate excitement around vehicles and for people to get excited to come to the dealer.”
Though each car’s modifications are unique, many of the changes are based on meeting a demand for sporty yet functional parts -- a demand that outside suppliers have historically met faster than the automakers themselves.

2013 Chevy Malibu Expected to Have Best Ride

The all-new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu sedan is expected to have the best ride and handling in its segment when it’s launched next year. The Malibu will ride on an award-winning global architecture that’s been tweaked for European-style precision with comfort tailored to North America’s diverse range of driving conditions.
“Our development team has been everywhere with the new Malibu, tuning the ride on rural back roads, suburban boulevards, urban freeways and just about every other type of road imaginable,” said Mark Moussa, global chief engineer. “The result is the most finely tuned Chevrolet mid-size sedan ever, with controlled dynamics in all driving conditions.”
Aside from finely tuning the Malibu’s platform, engineers also incorporated a number of elements to enhance the sedan’s driving dynamics even further including:
* A solid body structure as stiff as any in the global mid-size sedan market
*  Proven and refined MacPherson strut front and four-link rear suspensions
*  Hydraulic ride bushings and isolated lower A-arms
*  A premium, ZF rack-mounted electric power steering gear
* Chassis control technologies include StabiliTrak electronic stability control, with full-function traction control, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist system, corner brake control, and hydraulic brake assist

Powering the Malibu is a potent but fuel-efficient Ecotec 2.5-liter engine with direct injection, ensuring the vehicle has the power to match its responsive handling. The Malibu will also be available with GM’s advanced eAssist light-electrification technology, which saves fuel without compromising drive performance. With this system, the Malibu will be able to get 38 miles per gallon on the highway.
“Whatever the surface, you feel connected to the road in the new Malibu, while also being comfortably isolated from the imperfections and noise of the road,” said Moussa. “The feel behind the wheel is like that of premium sedans that cost thousands more, with a great feeling of control at highway speeds and excellent maneuverability at low speeds.”

The 2013 Chevy Malibu will be available for viewing at Illinois Largest Chevy dealer in the beginning months of 2012.
