New Rumors Out About 2012 Corvette

The introduction of high-performance tires and racing-style wheels for the Z06 and ZR1 models are the major changes to the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette, according to information posted at Corvette fan sites on the Internet.
Information is leaking out as Chevrolet is set to officially talk about the 2012 Corvette during the annual C5/C6 Bash fan event at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky., this weekend. Look for some official news on April 28.
Chevrolet has disclosed that there will be a Centennial Edition package for the 2012 Corvette, available on all trim levels of the car. That car will be available only with a black exterior. And it appears that is the only black on the Corvette color palate for 2012, according to ordering information posted by Montana Chevy dealer Ken Fitchner at www.corvetteforum.com.
Based on that information, it appears Chevrolet is making it easy for Corvette buyers to equip their Z06 and ZR1 Corvettes for use at track and club events.
The key option is high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires. This is a high-grip, racing-style summer tire that has been an original equipment tire for cars such as the Porsche GT3 RS and the BMW M3. The Michelin tires will be fitted to lightweight racing-style wheels. Getting the wheel-and-tire package will require the buyer to order the optional handling package for either the Z06 or the ZR1.
Other changes for the 2012 model year include:
  • A color palate for Corvette brake calipers. The choices are red, silver, yellow or dark gray.
  • A carbon-fiber hood available for Z06 models.
  • A technology package for the 2LT trim level that adds Bluetooth, USB ports, navigation and an upgraded Bose audio system.
  • In the color department, Jetstream Blue Metallic is replaced with Carlisle Blue Metallic, and a blue-colored convertible top will be available later in the model year.

New 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition

Celebrating 50 years of Le Mans Racing- transferring track inspired technology to production.

For the truly hard-core Corvette fanatic who likes to spend weekends thrashing his or her car at the track, there is only one Corvette worthy of consideration: the Z06. However, thanks to the ZR1, the lightweight, normally aspirated 7.0-liter coupe is no longer the absolute quickest Vette, but it is felt to have the most responsive handling. What it doesn't have is the uber-cool carbon-ceramic brakes, carbon-fiber body panels and magnetic ride active damping system of its supercharged sibling. That can now be changed to past tense with the birth of the Z06 Carbon edition.

The Z06 Carbon was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first appearance of the Corvette at the 24 Hours of Le Mans when John Fitch and Briggs Cunningham won their class and finished eighth overall. The Carbon edition is essentially a Z06 with a ZR1 chassis and some of the carbon skin. When production starts this fall, only 500 examples will be made and they will only come in two colors, Inferno Orange and Supersonic Blue. All examples get black-painted wheels and a black interior upholstered in leather and suede.
